The "Smart" Toothbrush

Everything's "smart" nowadays. Smart phone, smart car, smart TV. So why not a "smart" toothbrush?

A French company recently unveiled it's newest invention at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada--the Kolibree toothbrush. It is the world's first connected electric toothbrush. The Kolibree is no ordinary toothbrush. The Kolibree, invented by Thomas Serval, a French engineer, is a smart toothbrush that will help you track your brushing performance by sending your brushing information to your smart phones. By syncing the brush to your smartphone thru Bluetooth, Kolibree can measure its location and pressure in the mouth and then send the data to the Kolibree app after each brush. The Kolibree app charts your progress and scores your brushing technique to encourage you, or your kids, to improve brushing habits. Data includes letting the user know if they missed a spot or if they brushed too long. For parents, they'll be able to know whether their kids brushed thoroughly enough or not and reward them for their good oral hygiene.

For extra motivation, or shaming, the brush can share information with your social network or even your dentist.

Kolibree sits on a small white charging stand so users don't run out of power. Kolibree toothbrushes range from US$99-US$200, depending on the model, which is also about the same price as electric toothbrushes available in the market right now.

I believe the Kolibree smart toothbrush will change the way we brush our teeth which can lead to better oral hygiene.
